Many women today have trouble with seeing themselves as being anything particularly special. We go through our day to day lives without really thinking about it much at all (or at least we think we do). We get up in the morning, get ready for our day. Most of us use a mirror every morning but never really see ourselves in it. We move swiftly through one to-do list item after another. Before we even know it, the day is coming to an end. Hopefully everything on our ‘list’ is done and we go to bed knowing that the following day will be pretty much the same thing. We are so busy going through our tasks we don’t give much thought to those comments we make to ourselves…..Like the time I left the store realizing I had forgotten to pick up the one thing on my list I actually needed and whispered “idiot” to myself upon realizing my mistake. Or the time I was walking through the mall and saw a dress I really loved and told myself “you’ll never be able to wear something like that”. If you think about it, and I mean really think about it, I’ll bet you find that you think thoughts like this about yourself more than once each day. And it’s no wonder….the world today bombards us with all kinds of things that tells us we are not good enough….take a pill to get skinnier, use body sculpting to remove stubborn body fat, use this makeup for flawless skin, use this hair product to get the perfect hair, self tanner for the perfect tone and on and on and on. All day, every day the world tells us that we are not enough. As women, many of us have gotten to a point where we have bought in to this constant stream of lies. But. . .
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15:16 (NKJV)
God says we are CHOSEN.
I am Chosen. YOU are Chosen. If you ask people what the word ‘chosen’ means, you will likely get a response somewhere along the lines of “being picked or selected for something”. Merriam Webster defined chosen as “the one who is the object of choice or of divine favor: an elect person” or “selected or marked for favor or special privilege”.
We are God’s elect. We were selected for a specific purpose by God. From before the earth was formed, we were chosen. The word says we are a royal priesthood. We are joint heirs with Jesus. . . In other words, we are royalty! When is the last time you saw anyone in royalty walk with their head down low? You are part of a royal family which means you have access to everything that the King has. You are not only good enough, you are more than enough!
What would happen if we, as God’s children, started each morning by looking ourselves in the mirror and really seeing our self? What would happen if we would start each morning looking ourselves in the eye reminding ourselves how we are chosen, we are a royal priesthood, we are fearfully and wonderfully made, we are the head and not the tail? What if we were to remind ourselves that our daddy owns the cattle on a thousand hills and wants nothing more than to bless his children? Think about it….if we were to give ourselves those reminders each morning maybe our self talk throughout the day would begin to change. Maybe we stop putting ourselves down and seeing ourselves through God’s eyes. Maybe we could set a better example for our children and our grandchildren when we make a mistake. What an impact we could have on our generation and generations to come!
What lies has the enemy been filling your head with lately? I encourage you to start each morning reminding what God says about it. Look yourself in the eye and remind yourself over and over again until that truth gets down into your spirit. Then you can be ready to face the day with confidence in who your are in Christ!
